Historic building home to Lexington Writer’s Room heavily damaged by fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A fire greatly ruined a historic constructing in downtown Lexington. It was dwelling to several teams who use it day-to-day.

A lot less than 24 hours back, writers used the 1st floor of the creating to make and convey to stories. Waking up to information headlines ended up not the text they needed to be written.

“This is certainly a devastating setback but we’re truly committed to this project and we’ll figure out how to get better from this,” said Gwenda Bond, co-founder of the Lexington Writer’s Place.

The Lexington Writer’s Room is a nonprofit with 54 associates. They have 24/7 entry to function in the setting up. Fortunately, no person was inside when the fire started.

“We had a person who was coming in at 6:00 this early morning to compose and was a single of the to start with folks we read about the creating from,” Bond stated.

Bond said she’s happy no a person was hurt, but their house, constructed up by adore and challenging function throughout the pandemic, is closely broken.

“This building’s been below for more than 200 years, and we have to hope it has very good bones and is salvageable right now. We’re crossing our fingers for that,” Bond mentioned.

It’s a position exactly where artwork is developed, in the center of a historic aspect of downtown Lexington.

“Next to Gratz Park and all of these are historic properties. They have guidelines as to what you can do to them and it’s a disgrace to see just one of them go up like that,” said Tyler Morris, who functions in the building next door.
