A guest house in the Highlands has just been named the winner of Hot Tub of the Year 2020.

The competition, which is run by UK specialists Outdoor Living Hot Tubs, saw Craig Villa Guest House in Argyll beat out over 250 other entries to take the title.

The independent accommodation in Dalmally, which is run by couple Ewan and Taryn Diven, received a whopping 699 of the 2,000 votes cast.

Ewan, a firefighter from Scotland, and Taryn, a sports remedial massage therapist from Canada, had been hosting guests via Airbnb for years until they decided to upscale and invest in a guest house.

In March 2019, they officially made the move to the Highlands of Scotland, purchasing  Craig Villa Guest House, and they’ve never looked back.

After a “fantastic first season” offering five rooms and a massage clinic, the couple decided to purchase a hot tub.

Designed to match the guest house surroundings, with its impressive mountain views, voters were obviously wowed by the pair’s decision to use their budget on a low-key hot tub set-up with a wood-burner, natural wooden exterior, LED lights, jets, and a big enough interior to seat seven.

The hot tub is designed to complement the house's surroundings.

The pair explained that having a simple set up in such an idyllic location not only brings “joy and relaxation” for their guests but also allows them to relax when needed after a busy day.

Ewan stated that there’s nothing quite like the “smell and crackle of wood burning” on a crisp evening, adding that with no light pollution spoiling the views, guests can sit back and stargaze under a clear night’s sky.

Delighted with the win, he said: “We knew that we had a great simple set-up, but we never thought that we would have won – there were so many other stunning setup entries in the competition.

“We are overwhelmed by the response we received from the competition and we cannot thank everyone enough who voted and took part. It has given us some great ideas on how we can improve the setup for our future guests”.

Paul Margerison, Sales Director at Outdoor Living said: “This is the first year we’ve hosted our Hot Tub of the Year competition and we are amazed at all the beautiful hot tub set-ups that have been entered.

“We really have seen the best of the best and we’re already looking forward to next year’s entries”.

The producer has put together a competition gallery to allow people to see how they can create their “own slice of hot tub heaven”.
