For her latest collaboration with Crate and Barrel Athena embraced the strategy through the selection: in the A Coste glassware, the Pompeii pedestal, the Cannelée vase collection, mugs, and linen lamp shades. It all started off in the fluted portal entry of her Brooklyn bathroom, a place in her household that presented small utility—or as most designers may see it, an opportunity to make an spot as impactful as possible. “On my grasp ground, architecture knowledgeable the room,” Athena clarifies in her ebook Live Lovely. “Grand double doors led to the learn bathroom, boasting an aged-environment model bathtub, plaster walls, and a marble fire, but the hallway in concerning served no intent,” she proceeds.
The solution lies in classical architecture. “Obsessed with amassing plinths and pillars for the household, I was captivated to historical Greek marble columns, but it was not right until I saw a wood-paneled area at the University of Padua designed by Gio Ponti that I uncovered what I was just after. I wrapped fluted plaster up the partitions and more than the ceiling…,” she suggests. Athena brought in Kamp Studios to convey her eyesight to existence and the glance has soared in attractiveness ever given that (not to mention cemented their status as the leader in the previous-environment plaster method).
